Keep Your Handbags Looking New

A sturdy handbag is a fall wardrobe staple and a mommy-must. Plus, the right bag can make your outfit complete! However, most of us neglect to care for our handbags as well as we do our clothes. But washing them every week or two is the key to long-lasting handbags. See below for our best tips and tricks to keeping your handbags looking and feeling brand new!

Before you begin the real cleaning process, always make sure your bag is completely empty—and yes, that means unzipping every compartment and turning it upside down and inside out just to be sure. To get those stubborn crumbs or loose dirt, you can use the smallest attachment on your vacuum or a lint roller on the inside of your handbag.

Always check your handbag’s fabric care label and spot test before just tossing it into the washer—especially if it’s leather!

If your purse is machine washable (woohoo!), it’s best to wash it in cold water and on the gentlest cycle possible. Dropps Minis are the perfect size for washing a small item like your favorite handbag, and contain our fade-free formula to keep it looking great, no matter how many times you wash it. Tumble dry on low heat, and your purse is as good as new!

For those luxurious leather bags, proceed with caution. It is best to have leather professionally cleaned if it is especially dirty or stained, but for daily wear and tear, you can wipe your bag down with a damp cloth and a tiny bit of soap. To avoid staining the leather, always wipe down the entire bag (even if it’s only to spot clean) and with the grain.

To keep your leather bags looking and feeling their very best and prevent stains, you can try buffing your handbag with a leather moisturizer once a week. (We love this one!)
