How To Make Your Laundry Scent Last

How To Make Your Laundry Scent Last

Make that just-washed laundry scent last.

There’s nothing like the scent of freshly washed laundry. A pile of warm, clean clothes or linens is inviting and nostalgic–but getting that scent to stick around is tough. Here are a few tips for how to make that fresh laundry scent last longer.

Make Sure the Washing Machine is Clean

You can’t have great smelling laundry without a clean foundation! Believe it or not, even your washing machine sometimes needs a good scrub. Add two Oxi Booster Pods to the drum of the machine. If your machine has a “Clean Washer” cycle, select it. If not, run a normal or heavy cycle with the hot water setting. Your washer will be sparkling and feel brand new! This should be done once a month for optimal results.

Choose a Laundry Detergent Scent

Studies show that 75% of emotions are triggered by smell–which means that the scent you choose matters! When considering what scent you would like to use, consider the feelings you are looking to evoke. Are you looking for a fresh, clean-laundry scent? Our Clean & Crisp may be the one for you. Want to evoke a peaceful, relaxing air? A Lavender based scent is what you need. Looking for an energizing scent? Fresh Start or Rose Energy will add a pep to your step (and tackle those extra dirty workout clothes). Our Dropps Scent Explainer will help you find the perfect scent for you!

Pair with a Matching Fabric Softener

Now that you’ve selected your laundry scent, it’s time to add a scent-boosting fabric softener. Dropps Fabric Softener Pods are mineral-based to naturally soften your laundry, which means they can be used on fabrics that traditional fabric softeners cannot. Select a matching variety to seal in the scent, or choose a complimentary smell to create a unique olfactory experience! Don’t forget about our Seasonal Fabric Softener scents.

Add Some Essential Oils

Wool Dryer Balls are great at helping us save money and energy by shortening drying time while keeping your laundry soft and fluffy. But did you know they can also be used to lightly scent your laundry? Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to your wool dryer balls before putting them in the machine. They will lightly infuse your clothes with scent as they tumble through the dryer cycle. Experiment with different oils and different quantities to achieve the clean laundry scent of your dreams.

Don’t Let Wet Laundry Sit

Damp laundry is a breeding ground for bacteria and mildew–and the musty smells that come along with it. Remove your laundry from the washing machine as soon as the cycle is done, and make sure your laundry is completely dry before folding and putting it away! Forgetting your clothes in the washing machine overnight can lead to a smelly situation–but don’t worry, it’s easy to resolve.

Add an Extra Spritz

Meet our secret weapon: Revitalizing Mist. While putting away your laundry, spritz the pile or each item with the revitalizing mist scent of your choice. This natural air and clothing freshener can also be used between washes to remove odor and keep that just-washed scent lasting longer. It’s also great for deodorizing those hard-to-wash items like shoes, outerwear, and upholstery!
